Sarah Gish

Gish Picks
Intuitive guide, artist, enrichment expert, community labyrinth leader, and igniter Sarah Gish is the owner of Gish Creative (www.gishcreative.com), a personal, family, and business enrichment company whose goal is to ignite lives, champion culture, and create connections. Gish Creative was founded in 2000 after Sarah left her position as the Houston City Manager for Landmark Theatres and, prior to that, jobs at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and the Blaffer Gallery. She lived abroad in Paris, France for four months and in Japan (various cities) for three years, where she was an English teacher and radio DJ. Upon her return to the U.S., she did some radio hosting with KPFT-FM Houston and radio advertising sales at stations in Virginia and Texas. She grew up in Houston near Rice University and she received a Bachelor of Arts in Art History from the University of Texas/Austin. Sarah’s work can be summed up in one word: she’s a CONNECTOR. She helps people connect to themselves, to others, to information out there in the world, or to a higher power. She’s also an “info-preneur” who loves to inspire people to explore Houston through her digital publications, GISH PICKS: A GUIDE TO CULTURAL ACTIVITIES FOR FAMILIES (www.gishpicks.com); SPIRIT PICKS: A GUIDE TO INSPIRING EVENTS IN HOUSTON (www.spiritpicks.com); and THE SUMMER BOOK® ONLINE: A GUIDE TO HOUSTON DAY CAMPS FOR KIDS AND TEENS (www.thesummerbook.com). And Sarah is an artist – one who creates mostly out of found materials, especially hubcaps, which she featured in her “Mod Mandalas: The Chakra Series.” In 2013, she started an art project, IGNITE YOUR LIFE! (www.igniteyourownlife.com), which includes photographs, videos, and a forthcoming book. She has created four art cars and currently drives her fourth, Phoenix Rising, www.facebook.com/phoenixrisingartcar. Sarah leads monthly community labyrinth walks on first Saturdays at 10am at a different labyrinth around the city. Each walk is accompanied by a talk about labyrinths in general, that specific labyrinth, and a hands-on art project. And in 2015, she kicked off a speaker series, “WORDS OF WISDOM: lively talks on inspiring topics” (www.facebook.com/wordsofwisdomhouston), which features conversational talks from Houston changemakers on a variety of topics including cooking for community, body image, mindfulness meditation, and politics. It is Sarah’s greatest joy to encourage people to live the life they were born to lead and to connect with everyone she comes in contact with in some way. TALK: IGNITE YOUR LIFE USING PRINCIPLES OF YOGA AND LABYRINTHS We yoginis live a deeper, more reflective life than most but we also have busy lives and don’t always take the time to go beyond our meditation practices to include a practice of IGNITING our lives. The principals of yoga and meditation can serve as a jumping off point to ignite our lives is by tuning into our hearts and our natural rhythms and abilities as well as by using outside meditation tools to calm our minds and gather our thoughts. We will talk about 10 specific ways I have developed for igniting your life and how to use those every day. I’ll also talk about how yoga and labyrinths connect to some of those principles and we’ll end our time together by experiencing a labyrinth firsthand.
